Definition of Addiction

Addiction can be simply described as a compulsive or obsessive relationship to a substance or behavior.  If you feel a "need" for something all the time or at specific times, you may be an addict.  This could be a chemical (like drugs, alcohol, or tobacco), another substance (like food or even water), or a behavior (like viewing pictures).

Addiction Symptoms

It's pretty easy to spot the symptoms of addiction by asking yourself some specific questions:  Do I think a lot about the subject (substance or behavior)?  Do I frequently use the subject?  Do I hide my use of the subject from people I care about?  Do I lie to myself or others about my use of the subject?  Do I suspect the subject is becoming a problem for me?  Are there specific times or circumstances that seem to trigger my use of the subject?  Am I doing subject more often than before?  Am I doing more of the subject than before?  Am I sacrificing people or things I value to do subject?  If you said yes to any of these questions, you may have an addiction.

About Miracles in Action.

We know that through the work of our testimony and the blood of the Lamb, we have overcome our addictions and having had a spiritual awakening as a result of working the 12-steps, we carry the message to alcoholics and addicts where ever we go.

We believe that separation from God was the basis of our problem and that the addiction was only a symptom. We know that Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. We know that Christ will set the addict free when he surrenders himself to Christ. We have learned that by seeking God on a personal level, searching out hearts, having a willingness to change and by regularly attending the meetings, He has been faithful to change us and we can carry this message to others, of how they too can be helped. We have seen many victories from the addiction of alcohol, crack cocaine, cocaine, other illegal drugs, prescription drugs, tobacco and other addictions and habits that are controlling lives.

More families are touched by the problem of alcohol and drugs than most of us are aware. We have learned that there are very few people that are NOT touched by the problems of addictions and habits that control their lives. Our group meets weekly at a local church. We share experiences and hope with one another. There is no charge, only a willingness to seek help through the Lord.

A Special Note to Pastors

We want you to feel the freedom to bring or send people who have special needs to these meeting and we also invite you to come and observe as your schedule permits.

As director of Miracles in Action, I want to tell you about our group. I facilitate weekly meetings in Northwest Georgia to help alcoholics and addicts as they struggle through recovery. Not only do we have meetings here in Georgia, but also I am available to come help you and others in your church to start a similar group. We have branched out and started groups in other churches and they have had great success. Unfortunately, we do not have a place to help addicts get through the first few days, but God willing, that will come soon, For now, we pray, and through the power of the Holy Spirit we have seen deliverance and victory. We named our group Miracles in Action because each of us is a miracle.

Is your church hungry to see miracles instead of defeat in the realm of addiction and drug abuse? Then do not hesitate to call me, our group will immediately begin to pray for your people and we can come and help you.

Some of our members were close to death when we first found them and then and are now successfully recovered and restored to their families and living fully productive lives. If you feel you would like for us to come to your church and help start a Miracles in Action group, or talk to your church about the possibility of starting one, please give me a call. If you would like to hear some of the testimonies for some of the members that I mentioned, let me know.

Our group covering in the Covenant Cathedral at Cedar Lake Christian Center, presiding Bishop David R. Huskins. You may reach me by clicking on the contact link above. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

In His Love,

Pastor Ahue Sims
